What to Wear for Senior Photos

So you’ve been standing in front of your closet for 30 minutes trying to decide what you should wear for your Senior session. No worries! I am here to help!

Maybe you’re aspiring to be a fashion designer or maybe you wish everyone still wore loin cloths and leaves because you despise shopping. Either way, what you wear for your senior portraits is important. That doesn’t mean you need to go out and buy all new clothes for your session, you just need to wear clothes that represent YOU.

These are a few simple guidelines to get you started:

– Solid colors photograph better than crazy patterns. Oh, but you LOVE crazy patterns? Matching 80’s floral prints with Cheetah print is so totally your style?! No biggie. I’m down with that. May I suggest adding a sweet little cardigan over that floral print? Or perhaps a sassy blazer? Boom. We nailed it.

– Wear clothing that is fitting with the season. Cutoff jeans may be super cute in the summer but lesbehonest, they’re not exactly a wise choice for a January shoot in the Kansas snow. Instead, layer up your look and bring in colors and textures that way. And I’m all for cardigans and sweaters but if you’re going to sweat through 4 layers of clothing, probably should leave the parka at home. Editing and retouching is for sure one of my favorite parts of photography, but I’d rather not spend 2 hours retouching pit sweat. “Ain’t nobody got time for that!”

Umm… Moving on.

– Okay, I don’t know about you but I have about 3 outfits in my closet that I call my “Go To” outfits. Use them. If I’m in a hurry or simply have no stinkin’ clue what to wear I throw on one of those suckers knowing that my outfit fits well and is polished. If you need to dress it up a little, add the appropriate jewelry and accessories.

Bottom line, if you’re still not sure what to bring. Just bring a huge variety! I’ll help you!

Here are some helpful tips:

– Ladies, if you’re planning on wearing a skirt or dress, wear tights or spandex underneath just for good measure.

– Wear tank tops or undershirts under you outfit to make outfit changes quick and easy.

– Homeboys, shave your face. If you’re rocking a stellar mustache, sweet! Just trim and clean up a bit. You’ll be glad ya did.

– Covergirls, easy on the foundation. I’m a pro at retouching and I promise I won’t leave ya hangin girlfriend!

– If you’re mom says she would like to come along with you for your session, let her. I, for one, love having an extra helper. Plus, you’ll be sitting in a dorm room a year from now wishing your mommy was there. Trust me.

I’m ssoooo glad you stopped by and put up with my ridiculousness. Hope to hear from you soon! 😉

Sincerely,

Emily J
